The Billi Bed - February 7, 2008
"Madeline had to stay in a home phototherapy bed for the entire first week she was home. It was so good to be home and so good to have her home, but hard that we still couldn't hold her..."She was beautiful in every way. Even when she was so yellow, she was perfectly beautiful. And she was yellow. Her billirubin levels continued to rise for several days before evening out. They stayed at a 14 of so many days. I remember waiting anxiously each day for the results of the previous blood test only to find out that it has stayed at 14. It was discouraging and I worried that she would have to stay in that darn bill bed forever!
"I was so tired of not being able to hold her and so tired of her having to get her heels poked. Every time the nurses would look at her feet, they would just wince because there was no place to poke her that hadn't already been poked several times. A few times the nurse would say to me, 'oh dear, we better do her other heel, this one looks bad.' My reply would always be the same, 'this is the good heel…' it was hard."
